Entrepreneurs are Made
Aug 02 2007
There is a great article called Entrepreneurs are Made which takes a look at the actual DNA structure of an Entrepreneur and discusses whether or not they are born or made.
The article has a nice little summation which talks about the fact that they believe there is a DNA chromosome for an Entrepreneur. They state that while the Entrepreneur is born the skills that relate to Entrepreneurship can be developed by anyone.
I find this statement a little confusing. I thought that someone wouldn’t be labeled as an Entrepreneur until they had some something innovative and Entrepreneur-like? How can one say there is an Entrepreneur gene if the person never goes on to do something Entrepreneurial?
For me, the status of an Entrepreneur is only awarded to a person once they start behaving and acting like an Entrepreneur. This, therefore, means that anyone can become an Entrepreneur. If a person without the so called “Entrepreneur” gene is born into the Trump or the Gates family there is a big chance that non-Entrepreneurial child will display Entrepreneur behavior! The situation and the environment that the person grows up in will always play a greater role than a gene.
I struggle with the concept that a person is born with a certain advantage over another person. I believe all humans have the same basis and core qualities that allow many things to take place. Much of it has to do with the training of the mind and developing that intelligence. And, as many scientists have admitted, science still doesn’t understand how the mind works.
Perhaps Entrepreneurs are made there, not in the DNA?
While I think this research is useful I would like to see it go on to benefit all people as opposed to finding ways in which people are different. I think it could be very valuable if the research could isolate potential Entrepreneurs and see what leads them towards/away from success. These environmental factors could then be documented and show to the public.
I will be very interested to see what comes out of this.
