Think you really enjoy smoking, do you?

Probably the obvious and immediate answer will be a resounding “yes!” Why else would you be doing it? It doesn’t make much sense to be risking your health and spending so much money on something you don’t really enjoy. However, let’s pause for minute and think about this bold statement in more detail. What exactly is it that you enjoy so much about smoking? We at www.notar.co.uk often ask people this, and we never get the same answer twice.
For example, is it the taste? If so, then do you inhale when you smoke? There isn’t any need to because as I’m sure you’re aware, all of your taste buds are in your mouth and they’re all clogged up with tar anyway. When you become a non-smoker, everything will taste better. So you need to ask yourself searching questions to see exactly what it is you really believe you enjoy about smoking.
If smoking is so enjoyable can you explain it to someone who hasn’t smoked before? Would you be able to convince a teenager, for example, who has never smoked before, just what it is about smoking that will make him or her want to spend so much money on it? Can you explain what he or she should enjoy so much?
And then, when this teenager starts coughing and spluttering, you need to be able to explain why they’re not doing it properly. It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? But then, if smoking is enjoyable, shouldn’t it be enjoyable to someone who hasn’t done it before?
‘Enjoyment’ from smoking isn’t pleasure in the sense of a sensation that could be easily described to non smoker. The feeling of ‘enjoyment’ comes from topping up the nicotine that is already in the body.
Be honest with yourself - the first time you smoked a cigarette it smelled, tasted and felt awful. It actually still does! Your subconscious mind is disguising this from your conscious mind. If you don’t believe me, test it out. Stop smoking for a few days - then light up a cigarette; you’ll soon notice that the illusion has completely disappeared. Of course, by then it’s going to be too late: you’ll have put the nicotine back into your system and your body will start to ask and crave for more. You unwittingly start a vicious circle of unwanted desire. Tobacco companies are very aware of this and there are scientific and physical facts they are clearly not too keen to publicise.
Is smoking addictive? NO, but Nicotine is generally thought of as an addictive substance. However think about drugs that we know to be highly addictive, including alcohol. If an addict can’t get hold of them, they experience all kinds of serious, physical withdrawal symptoms which may require medical intervention or result in death. Ask yourself this: if you were living on a remote mountain top and couldn’t get hold of any cigarettes, would you suffer from such severe withdrawal symptoms as vomiting and seizures?
…No, probably not.
